CCIJ's work is currently funded by the following sources:
- The Sigrid Rausing Trust (UK)
- The United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture (Geneva)
- The Law Foundation of Ontario
- The Ontario Trillium Foundation
- Grants from the Tides Canada Foundation at the request of several individual donors
- Other individual and monthly donors
- CCIJ's own revenue-generating activities, including Continuing Legal Education courses, speaking honorariums and mentoring.
In the past CCIJ has received support from Ashoka Canada (a 3-year fellowship grant to the Executive Director), the Law Foundation of Ontario, the Law Foundation of British Columbia, the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation, the Funding Network-Toronto Fund of the Tides Canada Foundation, two generous donations from Maher Arar, and grants from the Tides Canada Foundation at the request of individual donors.
Annual in-kind contributions of office space and other overhead expenses are made by Amnesty International Canada (for the Ottawa office) and the law firm Samuels & Company (for the Vancouver office). We also have a roster of pro bono lawyers who donate more than $200,000 in legal services to further our casework annually. Additional pro bono support is provided by the instructors in our Continuing Legal Education courses, and by a team of translators, designers and communications experts.
Many of the CCIJ's activities are carried out through the volunteer commitments of a national network of survivors, lawyers, professors, health professionals, students and others committed to international justice.
Jayne Stoyles, CCIJ Executive Director and Alex Neve, Chair of the
Board accept generous donation from Maher Arar.
