Other Cases the CCIJ is Monitoring

The CCIJ serves as a resource and support centre for survivors of atrocities, as well as the families of victims, by providing them information about their options for pursuing justice. We also seek to hold perpetrators of abuses accountable for their crimes. When the CCIJ receives information that a human rights abuser is living in or visiting Canada (or is a company or group doing business here), we can initiate an investigation or call for the proper authorities to investigate.  After the CCIJ has conducted an initial investigation, we may, after consultation with our clients and experts, refer the case to a government office, tribunal, lawyer or other person to take the process forward.  The CCIJ remains involved in the case and accompanies clients through the process.

In addition, the CCIJ seeks opportunities to intervene or otherwise participate in cases before Canadian courts and international or foreign tribunals on matters of law that relate to the CCIJ's mandate.

*The CCIJ has initiated or played a role in a number of cases and investigations.  In those listed above, the CCIJ's action is public.  We are also involved in dozens of investigations involving alleged abuses in North America, Africa, Asia and South America that must remain confidential at this point.
