As part of our mandate and to better serve our clients, CCIJ works to strengthen Canadian policy as it relates to international justice.
CCIJ collaborates with partner organizations to inform Members of Parliament, Senators, and senior members of the civil service on the policy implications of issues important to international justice. We provide expert support in the development and implementation of appropriate policies to address those issues.
In addition to current policy development initiatives on the State Immunity Act, CCIJ has previously sought to:
- increase the amount of federal funding for the federal War Crimes Program and its allocation to criminal prosecutions
- encourage Canada to play a strong, positive role in the International Criminal Court
- develop gender protocols to help ensure that Canada’s War Crimes Program employs that perspective at all stages of its investigations and prosecutions.
